There won't be any more Omaha Fridays for me; the Orleans has eliminated the Friday noon Omaha tournament in favor of an $80 no rebuy no-limit tournament.
I haven't played no-limit in years (other than two quick experiments.)
Well, I came in 4th in this one, happily in the money. I think I'll enjoy this change.

And I won again!
Sure took a while; I haven't been in the money since I won last time. This one was a 7-way split for top place, which suited me fine. Best hand: four tens.

Nice win a Wynn
Nice day. Won over $450 in about five hours of $4-$8 Texas.
Which made up for me losing about the same amount between the tournament and the live play on Friday.
It comes and goes!

Glack
I've been on a pretty pathetic losing streak at the tournaments since I won that one, and today was astounding: I didn't win a single hand. Not one.
Bleah.
Bleah.

Woo Hoo! Woo Hoo!
I won the Omaha tournament today! Woo hoo! Yee hah!
It was a fairly small tournament, about 56 players. When it was down to two of us, we each had almost exactly the same number of chips, so we split the pool between us, a bit over $1000 each.
It was an interesting and grueling tournament. It was small enough that only 7 players were in the money; if there had been 60 or more, 10 places would have paid. When it got down to twenty players, every one got real tight; it took two hours to go from 20 to 10 players. Then it was like pulling teeth weeding out players! Anytime someone found themselves all in, they won. (This is limit poker, remember). As the table slowly shrank, I found my stack dwindling; I don't think I won a single hand in between there being 10 players and there being five. My stack got to the point where I was all in on my blinds three times in a row, and luckily pulled through.
Six hours of intense play, which is way long for that tournament -- usually when they're that small they're finished by 4:30, and this one was over at 6:15. I played pretty well, kept discipline, and acted boldly at the right time.
Oh, another odd thing was that when we got to the final table, nobody had a huge stack of chips; I was chip leader with maybe one and a half times the average stack. The way the limits go up there, you can go from leader to short stack real quickly (and I did); and you can go from short stack to leader real quickly (which I did too; the joys of exponential growth.)
Yay me!

Mixed weekend
Lousy lousy pathetic Friday. Got knocked out of tournament real quickly. Played lousy and also had lousy luck in live play afterwards. Down some $250 for the day. On the other hand, I kicked ass at Wynn today, up $150 or so; Roberta wasn't so lucky. Pleasant weekend all around.

Live play at Wynn
Interesting day today at Wynn. $4-$8. The first two hands set me back $60 -- first, KK beat by two lousy pair; second one, I had AJ of diamonds, board comes down with a J and two diamonds, but no third jack nor fifth diamond was to be found, alas, and dude with QQ beat me. By the end of the first hour or so, I was about $200 in the hole. But things turned around, slowly but surely, and I walked out of the place about $150 ahead. Quite a swing. Meanwhile, Roberta did the exact same thing, except without spotting the table $200; she won about $350.
Odd day! Very pleasant. Part of the success was this one big old Scotsman, who was friendly, and a very very bad player; he came there with some $500 and played almost every hand. Thank you Scotland! It was his first time playing casino poker. We didn't pile on to him -- it wasn't necessary.

Hmph
Lost my first tournament for the year. Lasted less than two hours! Was chip leader after first hour; didn't win a damned thing, and got good hole cards (which makes it a lot more expensive.

New year going well
The year's off to a nice start, tournament-wise. I came in in the money again yesterday -- 8th place (they paid 10 this time), only $150, but still a win. About two hours into the tournament I was all in twice (this is limit, remember), and about 20 minutes after that I was chip leader. Didn't win much after that, but marshalled my remaining chips well.

Didn't do well in tournament three weeks ago, did mediocre at live play. Then we took a cruise; it was pretty funny -- Princess just started trying having a hold-em table. Ohmigosh, what terrible dealers. And slow slow players. We played once. Was enough.
Today, came in tenth! In the money. Damned hard work getting there, and I arrived at the final table with exactly one chip. Never done that before! Woo-hoo, $130!

Just blogging my poker activity here. I'm feeling pleased with myself in live games, but tournaments haven't been as friendly this year. My recent games:
